Looking at Everyday Life was an art workshop series running every second Sunday from January - May 2024 at the Create Place at St. Margaret's House. More information here.

The aim of these workshops was to explore art as a tool to help us notice the beauty of nature in our everyday environment. Nine workshops were held with the themes birds, water, sky, mushrooms, space, home, moss, people and trees.

In each session we delved into the work of various artists who have explored the theme in different art forms including music, visual art and poetry, paying particular attention to the work of underrepresented artists. Participants were given an opportunity to share with & listen to those around them, facilitating the exchange of ideas and forming a supportive environment for creative expression. Drawing and writing exercises were tailored for each class to immerse the participants in the themes and allow their creativity to flow before their individual paintings are made.

The playful array of artwork created in these workshops concluded with an exhibition at The Chapel titled 'What We Notice'. We showed the many ways nature seeps into our memories and subconscious, even in urban environments, allowing us to collectively contemplate what we notice and what gives us meaning in our everyday lives.
